The Association for Counsellors & Psychotherapists Online
A warm welcome to ACPO, a professional community of therapists who are specifically qualified and dedicated to offering ethical, high-quality online therapy in accordance with the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists' (BACP), guidance in Online and Phone Therapy. This ensures that all therapists featured in our counselling directory membership platform have 80 hours (or more) of Online and Phone Therapy training.
Our counselling directory provides fingertip access to therapist excellence. Each therapist featured on ACPO's directory has their own unique way of offering online therapy. This will include their character and way of being, additional qualifications in counselling specialisms. Many will offer a special focus of interests that you'll find detailed on their listing.

You may wish to be online for all your sessions or have blended therapy. Blended therapy is a combination of in-the-room and online counselling. It helps when getting to a therapy session isn’t possible, or perhaps you're moving into or out of your therapist's area. If blended therapy is your choice, each ACPO therapist listing gives location details to help you select therapists local to you.
Research shows that online therapy sessions are as equally meaningful as in-the-room therapy sessions, with a similar frequency of successful outcomes for you, the client. Technology allows for creative exercises using, for example, shared whiteboards and sand trays, digital postcards, art, music and avatar design.
ACPO recommends that therapists consider reasonable adjustments for their online sessions, offering a variety of session lengths for those who find an hour overwhelming or physically painful.
The benefits of online therapy include accessing the therapist of your choice with national choice, being comfortable in your environment, no travel time or costs, and a sense of anonymity that can create faster, deeper sharing that is professionally paced by your therapist.
It should be noted that no online therapy can claim to be 100% secure. Therapists are trained in optimising security.
